In the Early Childhood Program, children have the opportunity to share in activities that teach social-emotional and academic skills, explore art and music, and expand upon imagination. Curriculum and play are integrated to develop each toddler and preschooler’s educational and social skills for a successful entry into kindergarten.

Whom does this program serve?

Children 15 months to 5 years old.

*Please note that there is an age requirement for preschool; your child must be at least 3 years old by September 1st. To qualify for the toddler program, your child must be at least 15 months. If there is no current availability, your child’s name will be placed on a waiting list.

When does this program run?

Monday - Friday | 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM

The toddler classroom is a full-year program while the Preschool classroom follows a more typical school schedule.

Since 2003, SHCC has been a collaborative site with Champlain Valley Head Start. Head Start is a national education program that provides educational and social service opportunities to nurture the healthy development of children. Together, Head Start and SHCC recognize parents as the first and most important teachers of their children, and assists parents in accessing family-centered wrap-around services for their children. Since this is a state-licensed program and a collaboration with Champlain Valley Head Start, all staff working in this program must be familiar with the VT Center-Based Licensing Regulations, and Head Start Regulations, and maintain a certain level of professional development and staff qualifications.
