early education program
From 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM, children have the opportunity to share in activities that reinforce academic skills, explore art and music, and expand upon imagination. Curriculum and play are integrated to develop each preschooler’s educational and social skills for a successful entry into kindergarten. With a strong teaching team that includes the Early Education Director, two Assistant Teachers, a Family Support Specialist, and a Cook (along with interns and volunteers), the class provides an outstanding teacher to student ratio. Visits from community partners like the Fletcher Free Library, Burlington City Arts, and the Flynn Center add unique enrichment activities to the classroom as well.
Since 2003, the SHCC has been a collaborative site with Champlain Valley Head Start. Head Start is a national preschool program that provides educational and social opportunities to nurture the healthy development of children. Head Start recognizes parents as the first and most important teachers of their children, and assists parents in accessing family-centered medical and dental services for their children. If you would like to learn more about Champlain Valley Head Start, you can visit their website or call the Early Care Advocate at (802) 861-3760.
